Quanto è reale la nano-minaccia?
Oggetti e indumenti che usiamo ogni giorno possono contenere e rilasciare nell’ambiente nanoparticelle in grado di penetrare nel corpo umano attraverso le vie respiratorie, oppure tramite la pelle fino a interagire col nostro DNA. C’è chi si chiede quanto sia pericoloso, in questo senso, l’impiego di nanotecnologie nella realizzazione dei prodotti con cui entriamo in contatto quotidianamente, dalla palla da tennis ai cosmetici, e se c’è davvero da temere per la nostra salute.
Scott E. Rickert, direttore esecutivo di Nanofilm, in un recente articolo su Industry Week ha cercato di mitigare le ipotesi di inquinamento da nano-particelle, sostenendo che in futuro le nanotecnologie potranno diventare un ingrendiente fondamentale nella difesa dell’ambiente. Di tutt’altra opinione, invece, l’articolo di Associated Press riportato su Wired News, dove si ipotizzano le conseguenze nocive che un inquinamento da nanoparticelle potrebbe avere sugli esseri umani. Ma probabilmente la verità sta nel mezzo, e le implicazioni positive o negative delle nanotecnologie sono la diretta conseguenza del modo in cui queste saranno utilizzate dalla scienza.
